This edition, issued five years after the first English and two years after the first French editions, was reprinted from the former using the same plates and done in a timely fashion to capitalize on the popularity of the theatrical "Frankensteins," the first stage adaptation of the work. Bound in contemporary paper-covered boards with leather labels to spines. Modest exterior rubs, original endpapers present but remedied by later papers overlaid, tender leaf at 71/72 of volume one, pp. 203-206 gathering of volume two loose. A near fine testament to the book's contemporaneous appeal and Shelley's immediate impact on the literary and artistic scene. Protected in custom box.
