Oblong quarto. (24)ff, loose. Atmospheric, even symphonic, etchings by Cohen throughout. Created in honor of a performance of Arnold Schoenberg's 1912 song cycle held at the Yellow Barn Music Festival in Putney, Vermont in 2003, the portfolio arranges, and makes re-arrangeable, the twenty-one poems by Giraud that formed the basis for Schoenberg's libretto. On each sheet the poem is printed in its original French, the 1911 German translation by Otto Erich Hartleben, and Cohen's own English translation. Reverberating with the aesthetic aspirations of 20th-century modernism, transposed for a 21st-century audience. Sheets held in aluminum box lined in fabric. Laid in to the box is a CD recording of Schoenberg's cycle, performed likewise in 2003. Fine.
