16mo. 20ff. Illustrated with eighteen compact etchings of babies sleeping, crying, smiling, or being held by their mothers, which have been printed in a variety of muted colors. This is Schwartz’s second publication, his first effort being a portfolio of etchings for Predatory Birds, printed at the Gehenna Press the previous year. One can certainly detect a hint of Baskin’s influence on this work, from the arrangement of typographic ornaments on the letterpress-printed title page and colophon, as well as some of the stylistic cues in Schwartz’s etchings. In a presentation binding of full olive morocco tooled in blind and gilt by the Harcourt Bindery, the spine of which has toned to an even shade of tan. Apart from some light foxing to endleaves, this is a fine copy of a rare title with an important association.
