Small quarto. (102)pp. Finely printed edition of Angell Daye's 1587 translation of Longus' pastoral, illustrated with woodcut headpieces by Helen M. O'Kane. Printed in red and black. This was likely one of the last titles offered by Clarke Conwell's press, which drew unabashed influence from William Morris, and which Joseph Blumenthal has called "the best of the American private presses of the period" (The Printed Book in America, p. 53). Mild rubs to edges, else near fine copy in vellum over stiff boards, with original green silk ties evident but cut.
