Octavo. 106pp + 27 plates. Of an edition of 1,000 copies, this is of a set of 95 that included Leroux's detailed etchings in two states. Those added include playful remarques, small sketches appearing beneath the main image. This issuance, too, features a hand-colored title page and initials. Printed on Japon. A worthy copy of one of Flaubert's masterworks, here specially bound in full vellum over boards bearing the signature of G. Levitzky at the lower cover. Both panels feature gilt rules, borders of light blue repeating circles, and roundels in the four corners showing brightly colored birds; upper cover also shows, at center, portrait of a woman in a Phrygian cap. Yapp edges. Light rubbing to painted spine titling, else a near fine and luxurious literary specimen, housed in slipcase. T.e.g.
