1762. 40ff. With folding frontispiece map of Paris, and a second folding map showing all of France at the rear. Almanac, with information on the recent history and royalty of various countries, open days for libraries and other public places, and the origins of the different arts. In an elaborate binding of full pigskin elaborately tooled in gilt with a mosaic formed from red and green foil. At the center of each cover is a central panel featuring a watercolor depicting a woman and man on the upper; and two women on the lower cover respectively, engaged in outdoor recreation. These paintings were sealed under fragile mica sheets, which are only partly present here. These are executed in a distinct Orientalist style. Flat spine with gilt scroll tooling and red painted decorations. Beautiful Dutch gilt paper pastedowns. A.e.g. A bright, attractive example of 18th century French binding skill, similar to those that appeared in the recent Jayne Wrightsman exhibition at the Morgan Library.
