24mo. (6)ff. An exercise in letterpress lepidoptery, Bush's book is an elegy for butterflies that are extinct and endangered. Its mounted faux specimens, created from drawings on a metal plate, printed letterpress, lasercut, and finally hand-assembled, interrogates what we truly mean by "preservation." Butterflies include: Wall Brown, Black Hairstreak, Black-veined White, Large Blue, Large Heath, Mazarine Blue, Large Copper, Large Tortoiseshell, High Brown Fritillary, Grayling, Heath Fritillary, Glanville Fritillary, and Wood White. Bound in plain cloth over boards decorated with layers of Japanese tissues, with linen ties. Fine.
